Presidency, INEC debunk rumours of Jega’s removal
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed rumours making the rounds that INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, has either been forced to resign or sacked outrightly by President Goodluck Jonathan. The Presidency has also dismissed this rumour in some online and social media that Professor Jega may be sacked by the Federal Government. The chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, Mr Kayode Idowu said, “It is all rumour. The chairman attended the commission’s meeting today and he presided over the meeting in his capacity as the chairman. He was absolutely on his seat treating files. You are free to go to his office to confirm as we speak.” Jega’s tenure is expected to end on 30th June 2015.
