Presidency Set To Replace INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega With Gov. Mimiko's Brother

Unconfirmed reports say there is  a grand plan by the Federal Government to boot out the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Attahiru Jega, and replace him with the the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU),  Professor Femi Mimiko, who is the younger brother of Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

Prof. Mimiko appointment as the VC of the Akungba-based university in Ondo State, five years ago, generated a lot of criticisms from stakeholders who criticised  the Ondo State Governor for appointing his blood brother in such a position.

A source close to  the Mimiko family says “It is a done deal! Prof. will be drafted into the race as President Jonathan is no more comfortable with Jega in that position”.

The rumour which has found its way to popular micro-blogging site, Twitter has begun to go round the nook and crannies of the nation.

A twitter user, Ajibade Abiodun who claims to have had a chat with Prof. Mimiko also fuels the rumour.

Governor Mimiko is the campaign coordinator for the president’s campaign team in the South-west and was recently quoted as saying the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) lacks the intellectual competence and capability to run a 21st century government.

Vanguard in a report captures it all saying: “The Presidency is considering bringing in another academic from the South-West, who is currently heading a tertiary institution in the country. The professor of Political Science and International Relations is said to be a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Jonathan and his party.”

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)  has cautioned President Goodluck Jonathan not to use the current security situation in the country as a pretext to frustrate the genuine efforts of Nigerians seeking change.
