For sometime now, former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei who served from 2011- 2014 having been elected 3 times as member of the House representing Aniocha North State Constituency, has been at war with former Delta PDP chairman, Peter Nwaoboshi over his (Ochie) bid for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which derailed in the midst of political intrigues that preceded his resignation as Speaker. Ochei, who first came to the House on the platform of UNPP, is now seeking to reenact his defeat of the official candidate of the PDP in the contest for the Delta North Senatorial District. Nwaoboshi, who like Senator Okowa, is also of the Anioma stock in the oil rich state. However, the UNIBEN Chemical Engineering graduate faces the biggest battle of his political career against Nwaoboshi, a development which made him dump the PDP for the Accord Party to realize his ambition. For sometime now, both Ochei and Nwaoboshi have been throwing jibes at each other, with Ochei adding that the former PDP chairman does not have what it takes to effectively represent Delta North in the Senate. On how he feels squaring up against Nwaoboshi in the Senatorial election, Ochei said: I do not feel anything. He does not have what it takes to effectively represent the people of Delta North. On his choice of Accord Party, Ochei said: Accord Party is more like a party owned by the PDP. I have stepped aside from PDP because I require a platform to contest, not that I have left the PDP.” Although Nwaoboshi had attacked Ochei over his non-commitment to the gubernatorial aspirations of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Ochei said his relationship with the PDP governorship standard bearer remained cordial. “I am supporting him for the governorship poll. Accord Party does not have governorship candidate here in Delta.

However, Chief Nwaoboshi replied Ochei, saying he is more qualified to represent Delta North in the Senate. “I am more qualified than he is, I am more educated than he is and you cannot compare both of us. We are not in the same class,” he said.
Victor Ochei hails from Onicha-Olona while Chief Nwaoboshi is from Ibusa, both in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. Although the Accord Party is relat- ively new in Delta State, Ochei’s defection, City People gathered was hatched with the full support and blessing of Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa. Their final game plan is that after his Senate victory, Ochei will then return to the PDP.
Before now, Ochei and Nwaoboshi had been long drawn enemies and both Okowa and Ochei have been long sufferers under Uduaghan and Nwaoboshi. The bond between Okowa and Ochei made them to easily and quickly strike an accord and over time, the plan was fine-tuned and eventually, an agreement was reached that Ochei should decamp to Accord Party to run for Senate. For the records, Okowa is the backbone of Accord Party in Delta State and anyone joining the party, especially in Delta North, where he hails from, must have his backing. On his part, Ochei has grassroots support, combine with Okowa’s structure, the expectation is that Ochei is going to have an easy ride to the Senate. Although Delta is a PDP state and whoever emerges from any primary elections is as good as having won the general elections. The calculation is that Ochei and Okowa have a common enemy in Nwaoboshi and both have to deal with him, although tactically as Nwaoboshi (fondly called the Oracle) is a formidable force in Delta Politics. Political watchers say Ochei’s grouse with Nwaoboshi is that he was the hatchet man that Gov. Uduaghan used to boot out Ochei as Delta Speaker, as he directed all the House of Assembly members from the Anioma region to vote against Ochei. Nwaoboshi as the leader of the Delta North politicians, had also teamed up with Uduaghan to frustrate Okowa earlier in the governorship race when Gov. Uduaghan suddenly dumped Okowa, his bossom friend of many years for Tony Obuh. But while Ochei and Nwaoboshi remain sworn enemies, Okowa and Nwaoboshi have patched things up.

A few days before the Delta primaries, Nwaoboshi, City People learnt had approached Okowa and handed him an olive branch because Uduaghan had also dumped Obuh for David Edevbie, the political godson of jailed ex-Delta governor, Ibori. The Edevbie project would mean that without Uduaghan’s backing, his support alone would not take Obuh too far. This is because Nwaoboshi desperately wanted an Anioma governor and could not imagine an Urhobo (Edevbie) becoming the Delta Governor in 2015 and if what would take to stop Edevbie was to make peace with him (Okowa), he was ready to do it. Nwaoboshi and Okowa promptly made up.
However, Nwaoboshi’s support for Okowa was later discovered to be untrue. This is because of news that Nwaoboshi did not deploy his full support for Okowa as agreed. After the primary elections results had been announced, Okowa was presented with the list of those who voted for him. To his surprise, names of Nwaoboshi’s core loyalists were not on the list. Two notable names not on the list include Louis Ndukwe, Chairman, Oshimili’s North LGA and Princess Pat Ajudua, wife of notorious conman, Barr. Fred Ajudua.
According to a source close to the Okowa camp, the conclusion is that Nwaoboshi may not have changed after all and Okowa vowed to pay him back in his own coin hence his backing for Hon. Victor Ochei for the same Delta North Senatorial Seat, he would be exiting in May.
