City People can inform authoritatively that Prince Adeyanju Lipede, the former three term Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local government who until recently was a strong Governorship hopeful of Labour Party and PDP has joined Ogun APC. Prince Lipede who owns the popular Omo Obanbo Foundation which enjoys immense followership in all the 20 Local Government areas of Ogun State finally directed his followers to move into APC last week Wednesday at a colourful open declaration ceremony at his foundation office in Ibara G.R.A. Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi, the leader of the group addressed the multitude of followers at the occasion on the decision of Prince Lipede to have all members of Omo Obanbo foundation moved into APC to work for the re-election of Senator Ibikunle Amosun and General Muhammadu Buhari at the colourful ceremony which also had Hon. Bode Mustapha, the Bobagunwa of Egbaland and APC top Chieftain as the representative of Senator Amosun for the occasion. An impeccable source divulged to City People that Prince Yanju Lipede directed his people to move into APC after he cut a deal with Senator Amosun on the possibility of getting some appointment slots and elective positions at next local government election for his people if Amosun gets re-elected as Governor in the April 11 poll. We gathered that some powerful APC politicians who brokered the deal between him and Amosun advised the Governor to embrace him and his Omoba foundation because of their popularity and acceptance all over Ogun State.
We gathered further that the politicians also told Amosun to work out a small power sharing formula for appointment and elective positions at next local government elections for them to get committed to his re-election. Our source added that it was after this was done that Prince Lipede agreed that all his followers should move to APC to get life for themselves instead of depending on him to be doling out handouts to them. We gathered that some of the APC top politicians who convinced Yanju Lipede to join the party include Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Gen. Buhari’s running mate who is also highly connected to the Egba Alake Prince through the Redeemed Church.
City People gathered that the defection of Lipede and his followers to APC came as a big jolt to PDP both at state and National level. We gathered that some power brokers in the party hurriedly put calls through to him in Germany to direct his boys to rescind the decision but we gathered that the Egba Ake prince simply told them that he was not ready to have anything to do with PDP in Ogun State again because of the people handling the affairs of the party.
