A 15-year-old boy, Hassan Yahaya, an apprentice with Ola Oluwa Furniture Building Contractor at 15, Olufunmilola George Crescent, Abule Egba, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has allegedly commited suicide.

The incident happened last Friday, 6 March. He reportedly hanged himself inside the shop while his master was away.

The Egba, Ogun State-born Yahaya was said to have come to work hale and hearty before he allegedly took his life.

Everyone was shocked that he could take his life in that manner.

According to an eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, a passersby noticed the lifeless body of Yahaya inside the shop and raised the alarm that attracted other people.

The eyewitness said the police at Oko-Oba Division were immediately contacted and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the station,  Superintendent of Police, Mr. Obisie, led his officers to the scene and removed the corpse.

It was gathered that when the deceased’s father, Mr. Musa Yahaya, who resides in Abeokuta, Ogun State was informed about the death of his son, he said the corpse should not be taken to the mortuary.

He said the boy should be buried immediately because God who gave him the boy has taken him back and that he was not ready to make any case with anyone.

When P.M.NEWS visited Oko Oba Police Station, the Divisional Police Officer,  Mr. Obisie  was not around.

He was said to have gone on a routine patrol of the area.

A police source at the station said the corpse has been released to the family for burial since that was the wish of the father.

“We have released the corpse to the family for burial since his father said he does not want to make any case,” the source said.
