The controversy surrounding the oil pipeline contracts awarded to factional leaders of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) by President Goodluck Jonathan has taken a sour dimension, with one Mr Ojo Babafemi Andrews fingering the outgoing president in the death of her 26-year-old daughter.
According to the Ado-Ekiti based bereaved father, the contracts for securing the waterways and oil pipelines awarded by Jonathan to companies owned by the OPC ex-militants sent her daughter, Oluwadimilola Adebimpe Fajana (Née Ojo) to her untimely grave.
LEADERSHIP recalls that criticisms trailed Jonathan’s approval of the contracts following speculations that the presidency had directed the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to vacate the job for the companies awarded the contracts by the federal government.
The father of the late Fajana alleged yesterday that President Jonathan’s actions and inactions directly led to her daughter’s death and those of many other innocent Nigerians who were lawful and obedient people going about their lawful businesses.
He said the late Fajama was a pregnant lawyer and a graduate of the University of Ado Ekiti (EKSU).
“My daughter was killed in a cross-fire while driving back home after a hard day job,” he said.
In a statement he personally issued yesterday, Andrews lamented that by virtue of his empowering “miscreants who go by the name OPC”, the outgoing president sent him and his family into deep mourning since last Wednesday.
Apart from her late daughter, Andrews alleged that the unconstitutional empowerment of the ethnic militia by the president had caused more havoc, as the OPC members “through their clashes with pipeline vandals killed so many innocent Nigerians particularly in Arepo area of Ogun State”.
He said, while, the death of his pregnant daughter, unborn grandchild, and other innocent Nigerians would not go unsung, the incoming government of president-elect, General Muhammadu Buahari, will revoke the pipeline contracts.
In the statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, Andrews said, “President Jonathan is linked to her death by the reason of his patronage of people who have no basic training in arms and weaponry in the business of pipeline protection, which is a very dangerous security enterprise which is supposed to fall under the purview of the trained Nigerian security agencies.
