Xenophobia: Senate Urges Jonathan to Recall Perm Sec

The Senate has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to rescind his decision to sack the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni, over his poor handling of the xenophobic incidents between South Africa and Nigeria.
This was part of the resolutions arrived at, by the Senate, after debating the decision taken by Jonathan, as was raised on the floor of the Senate by the Deputy Senate Leader, Mr. Abdul Ningi.
Sheni was recently relieved of his duty due to his poor handling of diplomatic issues between Nigeria and other countries, including the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa and the alleged phone calls to the Moroccan monarch by Jonathan.
In a move to save Sheni from total dismissal from service, Ningi, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Bauchi Central, had raised the matter, calling on the President to tamper justice with mercy.
Ningi who raised the matter through order 43, requested the Senate to plead with Jonathan to forgive Sheni, a request to which the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the session, said would be forwarded to Jonathan
