Any fuji singer that uses charms is a fool – Says Malaika

Iconic fuji singer, Alao Malaika, in an exclusive interview with Saturday Beats said that fuji singers do not use charms to become successful. He said people had such perception for their genre of music because generations ago, fuji musicians were known to openly use charms.

“In the past, fuji musicians were known to be diabolical and used charms to be successful. They publicly made it known that they had charms and sometimes showed people while on stage. But that was in the past. Unfortunately, people still believe that we use charms to be successful. Any fuji artiste that uses charms in this present time must be a fool. The person must be crazy because there are better things to spend your money on other than charms. The money that you want to give a man to do charms for you can be spent for the promotion of your work. Charms might have been working before but it does not work anymore. I am talking from experience and I have seen a lot on this job. I don’t think such works anymore and if it is working for some people, it cannot work for me. I don’t believe in charms, I believe in prayers. I am not saying that such does not happen but it only works for those that believe in it,” he said.

Taking a trip down memory lane, the dark-skinned singer said that there were times he wanted to quit music but he persevered because of his mother’s advice.

He said, “I had thought of quitting so many times when I was not making money. There was a time in my life that I did not have more than two clothes to my name and I was still performing. I would go to beer palours to beg the owners to allow me perform. They normally agreed but told me that I would not be paid. My priority was just to play. I would borrow money to rent musical equipment, perform without being paid. I could not give up because my mother had told me that music was a very tough career and if I insisted on becoming a musician, I must not quit.”
