Combining academics with music has been a blessing – Says Dotman

Rave of the moment artiste, Oladotun Alade, popularly known as Dotman, has said that venturing into professional showbiz while still in the university has helped his career rather than slow him down.

The 21-year-old rap artiste who is signed onto U and I Music while speaking with Saturday Beats earlier in the week said that he has been greatly motivated by pursuing a degree in Physics Education at the University of Lagos and doing music professionally.

“Music for me is a passion I have had ever as a little child. But then education comes first because without it, one is almost nothing in today’s world. I do not joke with my academics; I make sure that no matter how tight my schedule can be, I must attend classes and garner quality knowledge. The time to do good music has always been there because I have learnt to manage the two aspects of my life very well,” he said.

The fast rising talent made a bold entry into the Nigerian music scene in 2014 with two singles, ‘Yes Melo’ and a mixtape of Bobby Smurda’s ‘Blessing’ which have both continued to enjoy massive airplay. His latest tune, ‘Fine girl’ has equally been embraced by the music-loving populace with the video getting positive reviews across top entertainment platforms.

“I want to keep learning from those who can influence my career positively. Stars like Olamide, Don Jazzy and Davido have proved to be huge inspirations for many young artistes like me and it would be great to work with them in the future. I have the full support of God, my label and family behind me, so I am hoping for the best,” he said.
