{DETAILS} Nigeria’s largest Facebook food group with over 200k members, So You Think You Can Cook, reportedly hijacked

There are indications that Nigeria’s largest Facebook food group, So You Think You Can Cook, which is made up of professional chefs, caterers, home cooks and notable Nigerian food bloggers, has been reportedly hijacked by one of the group’s administrators. The group which was opened in 2011 by 10 original members, as of the time of this report, has 234,802 members. Going by reports, a top Nigerian chef was recently added as a group administrator shortly after he joined 11 months ago having been recommended by another co-admin Bola Coker, the original creator of the Facebook group.

Trouble started when the Nigerian chef proposed that he would like to change the group from being “ads-free” to a commercial one so as to increase the membership of the group to about 250,000. This proposal didn’t go down well with other co-admins who wanted the group to remain non-commercial so as to ensure its purpose – helping people conquer their cooking challenges- is unchanged.

A member of the group wrote on her blog Ms. Spice that Kemi Kale(group owner) “believes the chef’s insistence on monetizing the group has led to an ultimate decision to hijack the page and continue on his quest to make money from it despite being fairly new to the group. Kale says she may not have expected a co-admin to revoke the privileges of his co-members and also lock them completely out their group, but insists she should have paid more attention to the threat posed by the chef.” Following this fallout, the original owners of So You Think You Can Cook, and the chef, they(the original group administrators) regrouped and have gone live with a new group So you think you can cook – Food Redefined.
