The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade(Olubuse II) has joined his ancestors. The first-class king passed away yesterday, 28th July 2015 in a London hospital. Not many know that since the death of Alhaji Ado Bayero, the immediate past Emir of Kano, the Ooni of Ife never got over the passage of his best friend who died on 6th June 2014. Recall in 2013, there were fears over the Ooni’s health when he was flown out of the country for medical attention for over 1 month.
Soon as the news of the death of Ooni filtered in late last night, there have been various reports as to how the late king passed away. Though prominent Ife chiefs and indigenes have kept mum on this, Ooni was said to have been flown out of the country last week Friday, 24th July 2015 when he reportedly slumped on Thursday and was rushed to Ibadan airport from where he was flown to Lagos in an air ambulance en route to England for treatment. He was said to have become stable as of Saturday but he relapsed and passed on on Tuesday, 28th July 2015. Two of his oloris (wives) – Olori Moni and Olori Odun – were with him in the UK at the time of his passage.
