Court dissolves PDP chieftain’s marriage over irreconcilable differences, weds new wife

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ekiti State, Chief Idowu Faleye, and his wife of 28 years, Olajumoke have parted ways. An Ado Ekiti Customary Court on Monday dissolved the marriage over irreconcilable differences. The union was blessed with two female children, Toyin, 27, and Dupe, 24. Delivering judgment in the suit filed by Faleye, the president of the court, Joseph Ogunsemi said the marriage had collapsed beyond settlement from the available evidence supplied by Faleye especially as the respondent did not appear in court to give contrary evidence. Ogunsemi further said there was no proof of a legal marriage between the couple, describing the union as a “mere cohabitation.” 62-year-old Faleye dragged 52-year-old Olajumoke to court accusing her of being aggressive, uncontrollable, fighting and unpredictable. In his evidence before the court, Faleye had said, “I don’t love the respondent anymore, I only appreciate my children and I don’t see any resolution in the union.” Faleye also told the court that he had another wife despite the fact that Olajumoke still lived in his house. While ordering the immediate dissolution of the union, Ogunsemi ruled that Olajumoke shall have the grace to stay in Faleye’s house for 6 months within which she was expected to relocate elsewhere at the expiration. The court president added that the respondent (Olajumoke) had 21 days to appeal the judgment.
