Why many marriages fail - Bishop Oyedepo.....celebrates 33-yrs marriage with wife, FAITH

David O. Oyedepo who is one of the popular pastors in Nigeria affectionately called “Papa” by members of his church congregation is an author, preacher whose affiliated international churches, Living Faith Tabernacle popularly known as Winners Chapel International has its headquarters in Ogun State, Nigeria. He is also the senior pastor of Faith Tabernacle, a 50,000 seat church auditorium reputed to be the largest church auditorium in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. Oyedepo has been seen as one of pioneers of the Christian charismatic movement in Africa in over 63 cities in 32 African nations, Dubai, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and has been referred to as one of the most powerful preachers in Nigeria who has over 300 branches across the world. Behind this amiable pastor is a beautiful woman, mummy Faith as many call her. She has been a pillar of support to him and the ministry. The couple whom have been married for 33 years celebrated their anniversary recently and penultimate Sunday, Pastor Oyedepo revealed some reasons while many marriages fail this days which thereby lead to divorce. He presided over the third service of his church in Ota, Ogun State penultimate Sunday and noted that the increasing call and approval of equality between women and men have spilled into their marital lives.

Adding that, such women now equate themselves with their husbands against the biblical doctrine that advises women to be submissive to their husbands and that men should love their wives. He said cases of divorce were most in the western world because people in such places have thrown the dictates of God away and have instead started imbibing self-made laws that confer on them near-absolute freedom. This, he said, was partly the reason behind the laws approving homosexuality in such countries. He noted how he once mentioned that soon, it would no longer be news to find men and women marrying animals. He said he had now been proven right as there are now cases of men and women who married and even got wedded to animals. “Very soon, you would see a male President and the First Lady would be a man,” he said comically, but with some seriousness in his tone. He lamented what the world, especially the west, was now turning into saying nowadays, “they take churches to court for refusing to marry men. That is how the world has turned.” He told the congregation that women must be submissive to their husbands and that if they follow such with prayers, even if such men are wayward, God would return them to the family. He also warned the men to avoid being blown away by the things of the world as they must learn to love their wives as the Bible had warned.

“When you work in the light of scriptures, you create an enviable future. He also warned parents to teach their children the word of God and give instructions with love. “My grandmother never beat me once. She trained me by words. “It is how much of God you know that determines the level of your transfiguration in life,” he said. Oyedepo, who quoted various verses in the Bible to back his teaching, urged people to learn and work towards achieving success rather than blaming others for their failure. “Don’t blame anyone for the outcome of your life. No one can be enough reason for the failure in your life,” he said, adding that, even if such people exist, it is not more than 25 per cent influence. “You are 75 per cent responsible for your life,” he said Bishop David Oyedepo is such a rare breed who has impacted many lives through his ministry. He once talked about his journey into matrimony and ministry.”I was in courtship with my wife then, she was my fiancee. I documented my vow and I invited her, we entered into a church and I showed her the vow. Would you still be willing to follow me? I asked her and she said yes. I asked her to sign and she did. His matrimonial journey began when he met his wife, Faith at age 22 at a motor Park and courted for about 5 years and later in 1982, he married her. 33 years on, it is still rock solid. Pastor David Oyedepo married his wife as Florence Abiola Akano changed her name to Faith Abiola Oyedepo. They have four children together (David Jr, Isaac, Love and Joyce).

He met God at the young age of 15, he gave his life to Christ in 1969 through the help of his teacher Betty Laser, born 61years ago and brought up by his grandmother in Osogbo community, It was his grandmother who nurtured and taught him in Christian ethics with the early morning prayers which she attended with him every morning which she never misses. She also taught him how to believe in his destiny. He had a beautiful background and being born to a muslim father has never discouraged his Christian faith for once. David Olaniyi Oyedepo is a native of Omu-Aran, Kwara State. He was raised in a mixed religious family. His father, Ibrahim, was a Muslim healer.

His mother, Dorcas, was a member of the Eternal Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement (C&S), a branch of the Aladura movement in Nigeria. He studied architecture at Kwara State Polytechnic and worked briefly with the Federal Ministry of Housing in Ilorin before resigning to concentrate on missionary work. Oyedepo received a Ph.D. in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawaii, United States. His soujourn into the pastoral calling and having a tabernacle began when he revealed he received a mandate from God through an 18 hour vision in May 1981, to liberate the world from all oppression of the devil through the preaching of the word of faith. This is the inaugural vision that led to the founding of the Living Faith Church World Wide (LFCWW), first called Liberation Faith Hour Ministries, in 1981. Two years later, on September 17, 1983, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, ordained David and his wife, Florence Abiola Akano (known as Faith Abiola Oyedepo) to become pastors and officially commissioned the new church. Living Faith Church (AKA Winners Chapel) started in Kaduna but moved to Lagos, in September 1989, to start a new branch of the church.
