Two petrol stations belonging to a former governor of Oyo State, TDB Global Ventures Limited were among 90 filling stations sealed off by the Department of Petrol Resource (DPR) in Oyo and Osun States on offences bothering on selling above government-approved prices.
Engineer Olakunle Ogunlana, Oyo and Osun states’ field controller who spoke through Mr. Sadiq Ibrahim, Deputy manager (operations) who led the team, said the DPR will not fold its hands and watch economic saboteurs ruin government efforts. Ibrahim said “all we are just doing is to ensure people do what is right. Operators and fuel marketers must operate according to government stipulated directives”.
According to him, one of the filling stations was on Ogbomosho-Ilorin road and another one located at Atanda street, both in Ogbomosho were sealed off, as the clampdown on suspecting independent fuel marketers causing artificial scarcity in Oyo and Osun continue.
The Department of Petroleum Resources had beamed its searchlight on Ilesha and Ife areas of Osun state has arrested petroleum marketers who are known for notoriety and non-compliance with selling petroleum products at government approved prices.
No fewer than 40 additional filling stations were shut from doing business owing to fraudulent practices, making it more than 90 shut in a weeklong ongoing exercise.
When the team got to the Ogbomosho-Ilorin outlet, the sales attendants were caught selling petrol at N100/liter and kerosene at N97/liter.
Efforts by the station manager to persuade the inspection team to bulge did not yield any positive result.
Other petrol stations sealed in the axis include: Emaayo golden investment limited and Molab international investment limited, Ori-aro, Oyo town.
Alesh Raheem Oil filling station at Isare, Ilesha was re-sealed off by the combined team of officials of the DPR Ibadan field office and men of the NSCDC, Osun state Command having been sealed off a day earlier only to discover that the DPR seals were broken off and sell their product illegally.
Trouble started when the teams who had gone on the inspection and subsequent seal off of the premises, a day earlier were physical attacked and assaulted by hoodlums suspected to be acting on the directive of the management of the filling station.
According to one of the DPR officials who went on the inspection, when the hoodlums couldn’t get at the inspectors, they resolved to throw stones and other objects at the operational vehicles.
It was like a movie scene when the combined team of inspectors and NSCDC operatives stormed the Isare location of the filling station only to discover that all the seal had been removed.
