It is disheartening to hear the captors
have escaped with some of the abducted girls to Chad Republic
lending credence to the porosity of our borders. Why is it difficult for the
Nigerian Air force, if one may ask, to engage in consistent aerial surveillance
across the Nigerian borders? Why has the Nigerian government not called for
assistance from the Western world if the challenges are beyond what can be
handled locally?
Why are our leaders not sympathetically addressing their minds
to the plight of the highly traumatised parents and guardians of the abducted
girls? By now most of the parents might be having sleepless nights; some
perhaps going on hunger strike when it is business as usual at government
circles. We heard of the cancellation of this week’s Federal Executive Council
meeting because of only one Nigerian. Why not give similar prominence for the
over 200 young schoolgirls who constitute future leaders?
