Coker, Nwoke, Odu
The Federal University of Technology,
Akure, Ondo State, says the claim by a suspected armed robber arrested
by the Lagos State Police Command, Ifeoluwa Coker, that he was a
graduate of the institution was false.
It was reported on
Thursday, July 17, that two of the suspects arrested by the state
command for snatching cars at gunpoint, Ifeoluwa Coker and John Odu,
identified themselves as a graduate of FUTA, and a Postgraduate Diploma
holder from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, respectively.
Coker had claimed that he studied Biology Education from FUTA.
However, a statement by the Head of
Information, Protocol and Passages Unit, FUTA, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo,
and dated Friday, July 18, said the claim by Coker was “false and
spurious.”
Adebanjo said, “Our check at the
Students’ Affairs Division revealed that Coker had never been registered
as a student of FUTA and therefore was never a student or a graduate of
our university.
“In any case, FUTA is a full-fledged
university of Technology and has no school, department or faculty of
education as claimed by the said Coker.”
Adebanjo said graduates of the institution were well-behaved and would never be involved in any criminal enterprise.
