JIDE KOSOKO’s WIFE, HENRIETTA OPENS UP ON MARRIAGE BREAK-UP RUMOUR

Says: “Though We Live Apart, My Marriage Is Still Intact”

Henrietta Kosoko is a fantastic Yoruba actress popular known as Omolade. She is a native of Delta State whose native name is Emumejiakpo. Married to a renowned veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, she came into limelight in 1995 when she played the lead in a blockbuster movie titled “Omolade”, the movie which gave her the name she is commonly referred to as today.

Henrietta is the second wife of the former President of Association of Theatre Practitioners of Nigeria (ANTP), and they have been married for several years.

However, sometimes ago, news broke that talented actress’ marriage with Prince Jide Kosoko has crumbled. It was alleged that Henrietta packed out from her husband’s residence to an undisclosed location in Lagos.

Last week, the plus-size actress was a guest at City People's office where she spoke on her marriage breakup rumour.

Tell us what you have been up to lately.
I have been filming. I am on Super Story, and at the same time, I have been busy shooting some home videos. Also, I am working on some projects.

It seemed you don’t really appear in movies the way you used to?
If you watch movies, you will always see my face. Like I said earlier, I have been busy working. I still act like I used to. This is what I enjoy doing, I can’t trade it for anything

What are the projects you are working on?
I have many of them, but I need sponsors to come on board to actualise them. One of them is my own productions. I have some good scripts that I want to shoot. I don’t want to do low quality films that is why I said I need sponsors. Now that many of my of our colleagues are shooting Cinema standard films, I don’t think it will be wise to do a substandard stuff. Away from movie, I am working on my son, L.T’s (Taiwo) musical career. He is very good at what he does, and since I am also in the entertainment industry, I have to encourage him. And since he started his music thing, I have been the one funding his projects, because he is not signed under any record label.

Is he of one the children you had for Jide Kosoko?
I have had him before I married Price Jide Kosoko. He is a twin, he is Taiwo, his brother Kehinde is into music too.

At what point did you know that he can sing?
I have always known that he can sing right from when he was a little kid. I knew he will eventually do music professionally someday. And while he was about leaving secondary, he told me he was going to start music, but I didn’t allow him, I told him to go to the university first. I don’t want a situation where he will be carried away when he became famous and will not want to go to school. I told him I want him to make me proud by going to school, and he listened to me and did what I want. Right now he is in 300 level at Houdegbe North American University, Benin. I feel he is ripe enough to do it.

Are your children into acting?
None for now.

Would you allow any of them follow your path?
Yeah, I will really love to see my children become actors, but I can’t decide for them. They know what they want, if any of them is cool with acting, he will definitely get support.

Sometimes ago, the media was awash with the news of your alleged marriage break-up. Have you parted ways with your husband?
I know you will still ask me that question. I have spoken on this issue several times. There is no iota of truth in those reports. The story is not true. My marriage is very intact. I didn’t part ways with my husband, and there has never been a time I thought of leaving my husband. We have been married for several years and we know each other very well. I don’t know why people are flying the rumour that our marriage has packed up.

Don’t you think the news that you packed out of your husband’s house fuelled that rumour?
But I am still married to my husband and I am very much at peace with him. Prince Jide Kosoko is my husband, we never separated. You know how it is in Polygamous homes, it’s been very tough though, but I have been able to manage my marriage. We have been able to sustain our marriage because we love each other. It’s not easy, but I thank God we are still together.

How did acting start for you?
It started a long time ago when I was in Mushin. I grew up in Mushin. I just realised that I loved the trade and I went into it. I was on the job that I met my husband Prince Jide Kososko who encouraged me a lot. At the initially stage , acting wasn’t a full time thing for me, I am a professional caterer, so I was doing by catering business. But he kept encouraging me to go into it fully because he saw the talent in him. I later heeded to his advice, and joined him fully. And in 1995, the big break came when I played the lead role in Omolode, and since then It’s been a success story all the way.
