Oby Ezekwesili, ex-Due Process boss, and former FCT Minister, Mallam El Rufai among other dignitaries from within and outside the country. The festival will be happening in Lagos from October 12 to 19. Felabration has over the years become one of the most celebrated events in the Nigerian entertainment industry. It was founded by Yeni Kuti, one of Fela’s daughters, in 1998, a year after the death of Fela the king of Afro beat. And since then, many people from various parts of the world look forward to it at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos every year.
The event kicked off with a documentary movie premiere titled ‘Finding Fela’ at The New Africa Shrine on Agindingbi Road, Ikeja at 6pm on Sunday October 12. This was followed on Monday October 13, by a symposium, which is the Season 6 of Fela Debates with the topic, “The Amalgamation of the People of the Niger Area.” The symposium which will be moderated by Prof. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has as speakers Mallam El Rufai, Ed Keazor, and Prof. Sophie Oluwole. The event will be held at NECA House Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.  The event continues from 14th to 19th October with daily musical concerts to be spearheaded by the renowned international act, Don Carlos at The New African Shrine, Ikeja, Lagos. The grand finale will be a carnival within Ikeja and environs on the 18th of October 2014.
Also known as “Abami Eda or “Baba 70,” Fela Anikulapo Kuti died 17 years ago at age 59. He was born on October 15, 1938, hence Felabration always holds in the week of October 15 to coincide with his birthday. Past editions of this week long festival that celebrates Nigeria’s most revered art, featured school debates, photo exhibitions, street carnivals, and musical performances. These performances take place at the New Afrika Shrine, featuring great music and live performances by A-list local and foreign entertainers.
