7 Years After, Lagbaja & Ego Reunite On Stage

Lagbaja whose real name is Bisade Ologunde, the masked singer and saxophonist re-united his one-time number one singer, Ego Ogbaro, 2 weeks ago after more than half a decade, precisely 7 years ago when Ego stopped being a back-up singer for the Afro beat Maestro. The duo performed together on stage for the first time at the Glo event held in Lagos.
Fans of Lagbaja and Ego, who are both Glo Ambassadors were treated to some melodious tunes from their previous collaboration together at the Glo Prive Loyalty Program Launch which held at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos.
An era of melodious soul music and pulsating percussion between the two, ended 7 years ago when the velvet-voiced vocalist, Ego announced her separation from Lagbaja.
The reality that Lagbaja and Ego are separated seems not to be as astounding as how long it has been. The irony of it was that one of their last songs together, symbolic in lyrics and wholly romantic, “Never Far Away” was a track they did without a premonition that their career together was to end that soon. Ego had earlier in the year said in an interview that all that is left for her was just fond memories.
According to her; “The era of being Lagbaja’s back-up singer was a major part of my life. I miss the whole experience, the people I met, places I visited and stuffs I did in the band, coming together to make music from the scratch and what I learnt”, she said, adding; “that was 12 years of my life. Lagbaja himself is a big brother to me and I miss all that we shared professionally. It was tough and I am not saying it is still not tough 7 years without Lagbaja but I am coping. It’s a good opportunity for me to express myself and do my own thing”, she said.
But just like old times, Ego and Lagbaja performed together on the same stage as the duo were so happy to render “Never Far Away” song to the excited audience. The irony of this was that the same song “Never Far Away” was the last song they did together before they parted and it is, the same song that united them again. The duo were very excited to have had the opportunity of handling the mic together after a long time and so, couldn’t hide their emotion. It was so obvious that their fans at the venue of the event missed the vocal combination of Lagbaja and Ego, as they all joined them in singing the chorus.
