HOW 6 TOP OSUN POLITICIANS GOT AUTOMATIC TICKETS TO CONTEST FOR 2015 ELECTIONS

As 2015 general election gathers momentum, Osun PDP is not leaving anything to chances in putting up a better performance in the poll. They are really learning from the fallout of the last guber election in the state, as it has become obvious that, had it been there were no fight amongst the PDP stakeholders and top politicians who left the party, they would have won the election. So, they have put in place a working machinery at all levels of political formation of the party in Osun State, to work things out and at the same time prove to the major opposition party (APC), in the state that, they are still a strong and formidable party any day. There are moves to make sure all the aggrieved members within the party are been reconciled. They want to make sure the party remain united for the battle ahead. There is a reconciliation mission on cause, to ensure there is no more crisis whatsoever within the party leaders and their followers. This above mentioned issues and many more are however part of PDP’s strategies to perform wonderfully well in the coming election, and that of course explains why some top politicians in the party were been given an automatic tickets to run in the coming election. All these candidates have been unanimously endorsed by the PDP leadership and all state executives of the party, as well as all the concerned members.

Amongst politicians who get Osun PDP nod  is, Hon. Wole Oke, the honourable who represents Oriade/Obokun  Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives (2003-2011). Wole Oke is a very good party man and well loved by both young and old, because his political connection cut across in the state. He is also a big time financier of the party and a philanthropist of note, he has touched several lives positively. Not to talk of his achievements while in the Federal House, he was Chairman, House Committee on Defence. He sponsored several bills out which few were passed into laws; Pencom Amendment Bill, State Security Service and NIA amongst others. He facilitated the Siting of Air Force Base at Ipetu Ijesha and Armed Forces Games Village in Esa-Oke and many more. This is aside his own empowerment project and community development of his constituency. He is one of the strong aspirants from PDP in the last guber election. So his sanctification comes as a sign of respect for him and the fact that he is still young and would be a guber material for his party it the future. He is going to contest the Federal House seat of his constituency again.

As Hon, Wole Oke is been cleared to contest, so also is another strong guber aspirant in the last election, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi. Akinlabi Olasunkanmi could be best described as core loyalist of PDP, he is strongly committed to the party. in fact, he is one of those who should have left PDP, but for his commitment, he stays put in the party. He believes so much in party structure, any politician his party is working for that would also be his own candidate. He is one politician free of controversy, he doesn’t involve himself in political battle of any form. He is a very gentle party man with an impressive political C.V. He has represented Osu West in the senate (2003-2007). While in the Seante, he was a member several committees and Chairman of many; Chairman House Committee on Education, Chairman, House Committee on Army and more. He would have been a second term Senator, but was prevailed upon by the party leadership to step down for Senator Adeleke. But thereafter he went ahead and become a Minister of the Fedrela Republic of Nigeria, in the late former President Umar Musa Yar’adua’s administration. As Minister of Youth Development, Akinlabi was the only member of that cabinet to have served complete four year, making him the longest serving minister from the South-West. He is a grass root politician with dept political experience. It is perhaps because of all these his outstanding achievements that, he (Akinlabi) is the only one who can face Senator Isiaka Adeleke neck for neck in any election. Akinlabi’s partymanship also played out when he also stepped down for Omisore in the last guber election.  He and Hon. Wole Oke have political track record of success. They are well liked both at home and Federal level. Unlike some politicians who are only good at the Federal level, but not in tune with their constituencies.

Another aspirant being given automatic ticket is son of the late Senator Oduoye, Barr. Kayode Oduoye. Though some political watchers in the state are of the opinion that, Kayode is being compensated by Omisore, who was very close to the father in his lifetime. Late Senator Simon Oduoye was a respected politician in Osun PDP and the senator who represented Osun Central between 2007 and 2011. A retired AIG and former Military Administrator of Ebonyi and Niger States. Kayode Oduoye though has been in politics long before his father became a senator and he is learning the ropes very fast. He very qualified and up to the task, having being successful in the private sector before venturing into politics. He is one of Senator Iyiola Omisore’s political godsons. Which is the more reason some people believe Kayode’s being anointed is an emotional strategy moves. As it is believed that, followers of the late politician will still have sympathy for him somehow. Kayode is to go for Reps (Odo-Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe Federal Constituency).

Ismail Kolawole was also cleared to contest for the House of Reps in Boluwaduro/Ila/Ifedayo Federal Constituency, under the PDP. While both Mayowa Adejorin and Olusola Komolafe, are to contest Obokun and Oriade State seats, in the State House of Assembly, respectively.

Meanwhile, outside this, there are some politicians that have silent automatic tickets to contest in PDP. Like Hon. Kunle Alao, the former Commissioner for Agriculture in the Ex-Gov. Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s past administration. Kunle Alao is a grass root politician and a prominent member of inner caucus of Omisore’s political empire. He is dogged fighter and knows his political onions Lele as he is popularly called is being pencilled to contest Osun Central Senatorial District, under PDP, in the coming election.

All these permutation some say is borne out of the fact that, in the coming election, PDP has decided to put forward is best. Thereby correcting the perceived past mistakes. Where some top echelon of the party were seen as ‘winners takes it all’. All these they are working seriously to guide against. They believe these anointed candidates can never get it wrong, hence the automatic tickets. PDP is determine to win at least 2 senate seats, few Reps seats and state Assembly. Unlike the last election, where APC won all the seats; Senate, House of Reps and state assembly.
