Her Excellency Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke CON, Minister of Petroleum Resources of Nigeria and Head of its Delegation, on Thursday, 27th November 2014 emerged President of the Conference for 1 year, with effect from 1st January 2015. This decision was taken at the end of the 166th Meeting of the Conference of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). HE Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar and Head of its Delegation, is the Alternate President, for the same period.
An achiever and a woman of many firsts, Her Excellency Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke is the first woman to hold this position as President of the Conference of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). It’s imperative to state that she is the first female Minister of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria, and first woman to head a country delegation at the annual OPEC conference. She is also Nigeria’s first female Minister of Transportation, and the first woman to be appointed to the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria.
While Her Excellency Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke is the President of the Conference of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the legally authorized representative of the Organization and Chief Executive of the Secretariat is the Secretary General,His Excellency Abdalla Salem El-Badri. The Secretary-General, who is appointed for a period of 3 years, administers the affairs of the Organization in accordance with the directions of the Board of Governors. This appointment takes place upon nomination by Member Countries.His Excellency Abdalla Salem El-Badri, a former Libya Minister of Oil, then Deputy Prime Minister, and later Minister for Management, was appointed OPEC Secretary-General in 2007.
