Accident Claims 11 Lives In Benue State Yesterday

Mourning and wailing broke out at Uchi-Mbakor in the Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State when two commercial vehicles collided, killing 11 persons and injuring others.

A Toyota Hiace, said to belong to Ishwa and Sons Motors, and another commercial Volkswagen Sharon collided on Monday morning.

It was noted that the Hiace somersaulted into the bush and immediately went up in flames. The Volkswagen bus was mangled.

PUNCH Metro gathered that three passengers in the Hiace bus were burnt beyond recognition.

It was equally learnt that the lifeless bodies of other victims were pulled out from the vehicles by passersby.

Our correspondent further gathered that the corpses of the victims and those that were injured were taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, and other health faculties in the area.

The Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Benue State Command, Mr. Samson Audu, confirmed the accident, adding that details were still sketchy.

He added, “Our men (FRSC) are going round the hospitals and health facilities, where the victims were taken to, to collate the casualty figures.”
