The Power Play Between Awolowo’s Grandson In PDP And Awolowo’s Son-In-Law In APC

Segun Awolowo Jnr. (PDP)
Of an influential pedigree, Segun Awolowo Jnr. is the grandson of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. His mother, Abba Folawiyo, is one of the matriarchs of high society. Segun, who is the current Chairman of Nigeria Export Promotion Council, is a People’s Democratic Party(PDP) chieftain not just in Ogun State but also on the national level. He is a member of “The Network”, a political group within PDP, which aims to recapture power in the South West in 2015 for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid. The group, which is said to have the full backing of President Goodluck Jonathan, has Chief Olabode George as its patron.

On 17th December 2014, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) announced, Prof. Yemi Osibajo SAN as his running mate. The professor of law is married to Oludolapo Osibajo, the granddaughter of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo.Ahead of the February 2015 presidential election, Osinbajo stormed the Ikenne,Ogun State residence of the Awolowos penultimate week to receive blessings from the nonagenarian.They were received by Mama Awolowo and her eldest daughter, Mrs Omotola Oyediran. Speaking when receiving Osinbajo, Mama Awolowo said :”I am very happy this morning to see that Yemi Osibajo is going to higher ground and it is my prayer that he will get there. I urge you all to support his aspiration; God will take you there.”
