Women groups canvass votes for Goodluck Jonathan, Teslim Folarin

The Oyo State coordinator of Women for Change and Development Initiative, Alhaja Fatimat Salau has charged women to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). She disclosed this on Thursday at Oja Igbo area of Ibadan during an enlightenment campaign on women involvement in politics. She also canvassed votes for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential, and gubernatorial candidates(Goodluck Jonathan and Teslim Folarin respectively) because of the party’s gender-friendly policies.
In Alhaja Salau’s words, “The time has come for women to come into midstream politics as against the relegated part they played in time past. This is very necessary because women are part and parcel of the society; hence they should be concerned and involved in whatever affects them.” Women participation in politics, according to her, is very important because “they will be easily empowered to support their families and the society will be better for it.” The coordinator of the initiative also charged women in Oyo State to vote massively for Senator Teslim Folarin who she described as a man up to the task of good governance.
