Probe: You’re Only Grandstanding, Tukur Mamu Tells FCT Minister

The publisher of DESERT HERALD newspaper, Mallam Tukur Mamu, has said that the FCT minister, Sen. Bala Muhammad was only grandstanding by urging the incoming government of the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) to probe his activities in the ministry if it so wished.

Tukur who issued another statement yesterday from his base in Dubai where he went on self exile was reacting to claims by the FCT minister, while addressing journalists at the Presidential villa, Abuja yesterday, that his administration had remained accountable, as it has records and documents of what it has done since assumption of office.

The publisher had embarked on self exile to save his life, following desperate plots by the FCT minister, the FCTA director of treasury, Ibrahim Bomoi, and their cronies in the police to eliminate, implicate or arrest him.

In a statement he earlier issued on Tuesday in reaction to Bala Mohammed’s response to his claim, Mamu had observed that the present corrupt FCTA administration finally decided to respond to him with such glaring frustration because they painfully realised but very late that they could not manipulate or deceive the system and tax payers forever.

Mamu maintained in an e-mail he sent to LEADERSHIP last night that the response by the minister to issues of corruption levelled against him by the All Progressives Congress (APC), in which he said he was ready for probe “was mere grandstanding by a corrupt public official who is aware that the day of reckoning is fast approaching for him”.

He said the explanation by the minister that the execution of the traffic light contract was not a hasty or last-minute contract award, or hurried execution of an abandoned project as alleged by the APC, did not fool the common man.

Mamu said it was similar to the press release the minister’s aide had earlier issued, in which they deliberately avoided responding to serious issues of public interest that indicted their conduct and put to serious question and scrutiny their corrupt stewardship at the FCTA.

He contended that instead, the minister’s press release in response to his allegation concentrated on abuse of his person and the usual and outdated claims of extortion and blackmail which they woefully failed to prove against him in a court of law.

He said since they decided to talk, the public expected nothing from the minister and his corrupt officials than to dispute his claims and tell Nigerians why the nation’s federal capital remains even more dilapidated with virtually all the structures they met decaying six years after Bala took over the helms of its leadership and at a time the FCTA received from the federation account the highest allocation ever in its history.

He insisted that as soon as the new government comes on board and beyond what Sen. Bala Muhammad wants Nigerians to believe, the public through him must know what was actually generated internally by the FCTA in terms of revenue in his six years misrule of the territory.

“The public must also know the exact amount Bala collected from the federation account during the period and compare it with the structures provided by the FCT administration under him to see if they are commensurate with the billions he collected”, he added.
