Why We’re Impeaching Gov Dakingari – Kebbi Lawmakers

29 days to handover, some members of Kebbi State House of Assembly have said that the moves to impeach Governor Saidu Dakingari is on course, insisting that the governor has committed six impeachable offences that must be pursued to logical conclusion.
No fewer than 12   out of the 24-member Kebbi State House of Assembly served a notice of impeachment on Dakingari based on allegations of gross misconduct.
The emergency sitting was presided over by the new speaker, Hon. Aminu Jega. The 12 members who signed the impeachment notice, gave the governor one week within which to respond to the six allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him in the performance of the function of his office.
The members further claimed that their action was based on powers conferred on them by section 188 of the 1999 Constitution ( as amended).
Some of the allegations against Dakingari included the violation of the provision of Section 5(1)(a) of the Kebbi State Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Bureau Law, 2008 in that the chairman of the Bureau is to be a retired civil servant, but the governor appointed one Barrister Aminu Usman as the chairman of the Bureau while he is permanent secretary/solicitor general of the state Ministry of Justice.
Other allegations included assessing and obtaining a loan facility of N2billion from Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Support Fund set up by CBN without obtaining necessary confirmation from the State Assembly. Nine members out of 24 opposed the request while confirmation requires two-thirds majority of the total members.
